Freezwater Project

Freezwater in 2011-2012

Freezwater in 2011—2012

In 2012 “Freezwater” started first small scale experiments on snow protection. The Zeirath snow sausage (snow accumulation) at Lake Vishab (3200 m) proved remarkably viable (lived until mid-September, usually disappears beginning July). The a posteriory analysis showed that it failed to survive until winter arrival solely due to too rocky under-bed. We are glad to acknowledge participation of the University of Fribourg team in scientific monitoring of the results for Zeirath snow sausage.

The purely ecological ouput of the program (such as water for hydroelectric power or watering the Alpine pastures at Aragats) can hardly be detected at the present small-scale experimental level. However in 2013 “Freezwater” intends to realize a project whose results can be much more visible. The plan is to create a ski-piste from lake Vishab to the southern top of Aragats (Vishab Pist project).
